When I’m not writing or teaching, I’m designing and making my own positive lifestyle magazine. Zest For Life has been going for nearly a year now and theĀ fourth and final issue of 2016 has now been released!

There’s lots of great subjects discussed in this issue including what parents do that they don’t like to admit, what we can learn from children about happiness, why you shouldn’t put your dreams on hold and books to read this autumn. There is also some yummy recipes, positive news and winter horoscopes to read.

The Need To Succeed

success

Energy and persistence conquer all thingsĀ – Benjamin Franklin

I may have lost my way for a while but I now feel back to my old self. My ambitious, hard-working and motivated self that wants to succeed. I have so many projects and exciting opportunities happening right now that I haven’t even had the time to blink and really think about how far I have come in the past month.

Persistence is something that comes naturally to me. Sure, I can give into the temptation of being lazy for a day and say that I will do something tomorrow but in the back of my mind, it all keeps on turning. Like an old grandfather clock, my mind never stops. The hand always goes round and round and even when I don’t think I’m thinking about everything I have to and want to do, it’s still there, encouraging me to keep going. I have this ongoing need to succeed.

I want to update this blog as much as I used to but there are not enough hours in the day to achieve everything I want to and I have to learn to prioritize. In the last few weeks I have managed to land myself a paid part-time freelance writing job, volunteer at a hostel as a mentor in Creative Writing, sign up to be a volunteer at The Manchester Literature Festival and start my own online magazine Zest For Life. It’s in the very early stages but please follow the Zest For Life BlogĀ here.

Adding to that I have a novel that is still stuck on 4,000 words because I haven’t had the time to focus on it. I am still writing short stories and poetry for collections that I will put together one day in the future. I still contribute articles for two online magazines and I also have this blog. If that wasn’t enough, I’m also signing up for a night class once a week, the class is being taught by a successful author who will be teaching the different ways to publish your writing.

I know I have a lot of things going on in my life right now but I like to be busy. The days were so long when I had nothing to do and no motivation to start anything new. Now, I feel my old self again. I am ready to take on anything life throws at me. I still think about the future but I am really in love with my life right now.

There’s a burning passion inside of me for words. I want to write. I want to be a successful writer. One day I want to be a successful author. I want an amazing career. I want to complete all of the projects that I have set for myself. I want to take every opportunity that comes my way. I want to succeed and I’ve decided to start enjoying every second of my life.

Blog Update: Scheduled Posts & Busy Days

Hello to my followers, this is just a quick update about my blog and a few changes that will be happening over the next couple of weeks. I currently have busy times ahead. I am starting an internship at VIVA magazine tomorrow, I am still writing articles for The W Review and I also have frequent interviews for paid jobs too. Now, I don’t want to stop blogging, so I came up with a temporary solution, scheduled posting. I have scheduled posts for the whole week, these include inspiring photos and quotes of the day. For now, I am currently leaving the yoga pose of the day and thought of the day segments on hold. I just don’t have the time right now to write them.

I am also aware that I started a writing challenge but never completed it and again this is something I want to carry on when I have more time. I want to say thank you to all of my followers. Another Beautiful Rhyme has turned into something I never expected it to be. I now have 605 followers across social media and have 7,000 hits. Every like and comment makes my day, so thank you for supporting this blog and for liking what I post on a daily basis. I hope you have an amazing day. I will update you all again soon.

Thank you.
Emma-Jane.

Writers Write

There is nothing more frustrating for a writer than a blank page.

For the last few months there has been a lot of blank pages. I have made no progress with any of my writing projects. I haven’t settled on an idea yet for a novel, I’m not writing poetry or short stories. I’m struggling to write articles and I have to sit down and remind myself to constantly update this blog.

It’s like I have nothing to say. I try my best to write but the words don’t come. I sat down at my typewriter a few days ago. I started to write a short story. I got about ten lines into it when I decided that it was rubbish, I threw it away and sat there with my head in my hands. I was frustrated with myself and I still am. Why can’t I write at the moment? I feel like I have lost all of my confidence and I have no ideas, nothing.

Writers write but right now, I’m not writing. I don’t know what to do. I feel like I have tried everything. I have given myself time, I have tried to read a book to try and get inspired, I have tried writing prompts. Some writers have to feel pain or sadness to write, for me, I think I need to be happy. At the moment, I’m not entirely happy. It’s hard to explain. I feel tired but it’s a tiredness that cannot be fixed by sleep. I don’t find writing enjoyable right now and this is hard for me because writing has always been an escape. I feel like life is trying to bring me down but I have to try and stay positive.

One day soon I will pick up my pen and write, for now, all I can do is wait until that happens…

The Final Chapter

open book

The final chapter has ended on my university journey. The graduation festivities will kick off with the graduation ball next week and I will be handed my Creative Writing degree in July at the ceremony. I can’t believe I am almost a university graduate! I can’t believe how fast the past three years have gone! Before I started university I was lost, I didn’t know where I wanted to go or who I wanted to be. I was struggling to make a decision.

So I took a leap of faith and enrolled on a Creative Writing course, I believe that it’s the best decision I have ever made. I can proudly say that I am a writer. I always have been but I never had the confidence to really give it a go. I didn’t believe that I had enough talent and I knew that I didn’t have the right dedication and discipline it took to write for a living. Now I do.

There have been many flaws in my degree but each individual takes away something different from the experience and I take away confidence. I now believe in myself. I believe in my writing. I may still be unsure about what the future holds for me but I am no longer lost.

I have found my voice, I have found my purpose and for me, that’s the only thing I set out to do. So, will this Creative Writing degree help me get a job? Probably not. But it wasn’t the purpose I was striving for. I will get a job, any job and I will write. In a perfect world, I would love to do a job where I could use my talent for words but it isn’t always possible so I will settle for what I can get. As long as I have the time to write and I can publish my novels, I will be happy.

The chapter may be ending on this part of my life but I am excited for the new and exciting experiences that come my way. I don’t know where I am heading but I’m sure about one thing, I am a writer. I live and breathe words. No matter what happens, I am proud to say that I now have the confidence to follow my dreams of being a professional writer.

My Name In Black & White

collage 1
I have been extremely busy over the past couple of weeks so forgive me for not updating my blog as often as I should be doing. I have been juggling university work with my two new writing jobs. I am now a blogger for Grads.co.uk and a book reviwer at Good Vibrations Magazine. They are both unpaid positions but I finally feel like I am getting my name out there, in black and white. I am building up a portfolio and making contacts and that is exactly what I need to be doing if I want a career in writing. I feel like my brain is buzzing but in a good way. I am trying to write, do my university work, read as much as possible and have time for myself but I like being busy. I now have three unpaid writing experiences under my belt, Female First internship, Blogger experience, Book Reviewing experience. I am giddy, I am happy and content with how things are at the minute. I do tend to panic over the fact that I am finishing university soon and I graduate in July but I feel like I should just breathe and take it all in.

One day, I hope to see my name in black and white in a printed magazine or even better – my own novel! But for now I will settle with my name being splashed across the world wide web. I am fighting for this because it is my passion. I just want to write. Whether I end up writing slogans, novels, articles or reviews – I will be happy as long as I can write. I know that I will have to get any job when I finish university, so that I can save up some money and me and my boyfriend can get a place of our own and we can both start our careers in our chosen paths. Writing is something that I will always do for me but being able to write professionally and get paid for it – well, that’s the dream. There are writers out there that do it and it takes a lot of confidence, talent and thick skin (something that I lack but I will get better with rejections in time.)

If you head over to my the published tab on my home page – there will be links to my newly published pieces on both Grads.co.uk & Good Vibrations Magazine.

Writing, Kindles & Summer Boredom

kindle

Happy Sunday šŸ™‚Ā I gathered it was time for another post and because it’s a Sunday and I’m really bored here it goes.. First of all I want to mention that I am now a kindle user – never thought that would happen! At first I was against the idea and believed that reading an actual book was the only way I wanted to read or study. Then I came to the realisation that maybe this new found technology isn’t so bad.

There’s a lot of free books I can read in my spare time and the fact that it holds thousands of books is just another positive. For my first year I accumulated over 25 books and there was no way I could find the room for another 25 or so for this year’s study. So I researched into kindles a while ago and now I have one. The kindle touch to be exact. And, I love it. I still enjoy reading actual books but the kindle will keep my addiction to buying books to a minimum because I can download the books that still remain my guilty pleasure, romance. Speaking of romance – my book.

Sigh. It’s safe to say it’s a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. I’ve stopped writing it for now because I believe that I need more knowledge of novel writing and how to plan and perfect my writing –Ā  properly! I seem to forget that I’m a newbie at (let’s call it professional) writing. With no actual study background apart from English at school I’m learning constantly about writing structure and planning.

So I headed to the library – and no the kindle will never change my passion for paperback books. The kindle is a handy edition for my course books but I still love the joy of sitting in a library browsing through books, learning new things and picking the best ones to take home (this will never change.) I took out five books – The Novel-Writer’s tool kit, Awakening the writer within, Writing Romantic fiction, How to write your first novel and Creative Writing. Bought myself another empty notebook (that I will fill this time, I promise) I’m making notes on advice, tips and exercises to get the creativity flowing.

This, I believe will unlock the writer’s block I seem to have and have had since finishing uni. I’ve been thinking about my plot and my characters and there are a few things I would like to change.. again! I need to be sure of everything before I write any more.. hopefully with the help of these guides I can write without any worries. I get really bored – there’s just nothing to do this Summer. Can’t seem to find a job and money is low so writing is a good distraction – I’m going to throw myself into the whole novel writing scenario with positivity. I can do it. I know I can.
