Writer's Life

Writing, Kindles & Summer Boredom

kindle

Happy Sunday 🙂 I gathered it was time for another post and because it’s a Sunday and I’m really bored here it goes.. First of all I want to mention that I am now a kindle user – never thought that would happen! At first I was against the idea and believed that reading an actual book was the only way I wanted to read or study. Then I came to the realisation that maybe this new found technology isn’t so bad.

There’s a lot of free books I can read in my spare time and the fact that it holds thousands of books is just another positive. For my first year I accumulated over 25 books and there was no way I could find the room for another 25 or so for this year’s study. So I researched into kindles a while ago and now I have one. The kindle touch to be exact. And, I love it. I still enjoy reading actual books but the kindle will keep my addiction to buying books to a minimum because I can download the books that still remain my guilty pleasure, romance. Speaking of romance – my book.

Sigh. It’s safe to say it’s a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. I’ve stopped writing it for now because I believe that I need more knowledge of novel writing and how to plan and perfect my writing –  properly! I seem to forget that I’m a newbie at (let’s call it professional) writing. With no actual study background apart from English at school I’m learning constantly about writing structure and planning.

So I headed to the library – and no the kindle will never change my passion for paperback books. The kindle is a handy edition for my course books but I still love the joy of sitting in a library browsing through books, learning new things and picking the best ones to take home (this will never change.) I took out five books – The Novel-Writer’s tool kit, Awakening the writer within, Writing Romantic fiction, How to write your first novel and Creative Writing. Bought myself another empty notebook (that I will fill this time, I promise) I’m making notes on advice, tips and exercises to get the creativity flowing.

This, I believe will unlock the writer’s block I seem to have and have had since finishing uni. I’ve been thinking about my plot and my characters and there are a few things I would like to change.. again! I need to be sure of everything before I write any more.. hopefully with the help of these guides I can write without any worries. I get really bored – there’s just nothing to do this Summer. Can’t seem to find a job and money is low so writing is a good distraction – I’m going to throw myself into the whole novel writing scenario with positivity. I can do it. I know I can.
